The Best Places To Buy A Property In Liguria, Italy

By Jesse Semmens Leave a Comment

Liguria is one of the most beautiful regions in Northern Italy. Most of the region is covered with mountains. Liguria has always been popular because of its long coastline forming the world famous Italian Riviera. This coastline stretches from Italy’s border with France to Capo Corvo, located near the border with Tuscany. The coastal region in Liguria is very mountainous and rocky.

However, it has been split in different areas with tiny valleys. In these valleys, houses hang beautifully on the hillsides over some small ports lined with fishing boats. Five of the most popular fishing villages include Manarola, Corniglia, Riomaggiore, Monterosso al Mare and Vernazza. They are collectively known as Cinque Terre. Due to the popularity of this region, a lot of people keep looking for properties in Liguria.

Why should You Look for Properties in Liguria?

There are some good reasons why properties in Liguria are getting extremely popular among real estate buyers. This place is just 40 minutes from the Airport in Nice. Moreover, it is well connected via trains between Nice and Ventimiglia. Even annual taxes in Liguria are inexpensive and affordable. Some towns like Sanremo and Bordighera have always been popular for their fashion, quality of life and location. Liguria is also just 20 minutes away from Montecarlo. Foreign people buying properties in Liguria are welcomed like locals.

Three Excellent Towns to Buy Property

Genoa, Castelletto and Portofino are three major towns in the Italian Riviera. Portofino is still considered to be a traditional fishing village. It’s very beautiful and offers many different tourist hotspots. Since the 1950s, this town has become a popular resort destination, especially for people with a keen interest in wealthy yachts. In the last few years, the Portofino harbor has become a very popular docking area for luxurious yachts. This town also has a lot of vacation villas. Most of these villas are owned by English expats.

When you’re looking for properties in Liguria, Genoa and Castelletto will be good choices. Genoa’s Centro Storico is one of the biggest historic centres in Europe. Basically, it is a convoluted maze of little, criss-crossing alleyways and streets called Caruggi. Right beside the Via Garibaldi, you will notice the beautiful Baroque Palazzo dating back to the 16th century. The main square is called Piazza de Ferrari. It is marked by a beautiful circular fountain. This area adjoins the Carlo Felice Opera house and the Palace of the Doges.

Genoa is also home to one of the biggest aquariums in Europe. It exhibits a wide range of sea life including sharks, dolphins and seals. In addition to this, Porto Antico is a seaside promenade lined with cafes, wine cellars and many other attractions. On the eastern side, you will notice Boccadasse, which is a traditional village with fishermens’ houses.

While buying properties in Liguria, you cannot miss Castelletto. It is a very charming neighborhood located high on the hillside. It even overlooks the Genoese city centre. In fact, you need to take two different lifts to reach this place. Castelletto gives an aerial view of the Mediterranean sea and Genoa.
