The Dangers Of Dry Rot

By Jesse Semmens Leave a Comment

Interestingly enough, dry rot is not caused simply by a piece of wood being too dry. In fact, dampness is a requirement for dry rot to proliferate. Unlike some forms of rotting, such as wet rot, dry rot isn’t simply a natural process involving bacteria or organisms. Dry rot is a specific species of fungi that consume wood, specifically cured wood. This a special danger to homes.

Dangers of Dry Rot

If you do not work to prevent dry rot, damp can creep into your home and begin to undermine the quality of your wood. Your home is likely made of hundreds of kilograms of wood that keep it together. If that wood is undermined, all or part of your home could be in danger. Dry rot causes structural deficiencies in wood. Damp and dry rot control in Buxton is absolutely essential to maintaining a healthy home.

Controlling Damp

Damp can be controlled in several ways. You have to first make sure that you are doing everything you can to keep damp from spreading. You need to make sure that your gutters are clear and water is passing freely through them. It needs to be directed away from the foundation of your home. Also, you should install drains anywhere that water might collect.

Lastly, you need to call professionals to help control damp. They will drill tiny holes near the foundation of your home and install materials that will keep the damp from spreading into the wood. There’s only so much you can do on your own to prevent damp. A team of professionals can identify dry rot risks and assess them so that you don’t have a much costlier problem on your hands.

Dry rot is a danger to the health of your home, but you can prevent it if you act quickly. You need to prevent water from collecting at the base of your home, so you need to call professionals.
